An interview with David Strain (part 2)

What do we need to consider, as ministers and churches as we call men and train men for the pastoral ministry?

As my friend David Strain says so clearly and concisely, seminaries are vital to the training of men for the ministry, but they have a limitation. They can give you tools of the trade, and hone your gifts, training you in Hebrew and Greek, exegesis and many other things, and even pressing you towards a godly character and holiness. But the only institution ordained by God for the calling and perfecting of the saints is the church of the Lord Jesus Christ. This means that it is through the church that evangelism and the building of the saints happen, but this also includes pastoral formation. Basically, pastors make pastors and churches make pastors.
